「 Chapter 04 」

Through out the Zelda games, there are a variety of Deku based items. Most if not all of these are made by the deku themselves. This section contains brief descriptions of these items, and what their uses are.

   (DEKU MASK)
Obtained when Skull Kid's "curse" is healed, this mask has the ability to turn Link into a Deku Scrub. Many advantages come with being in this form, however there are also many disadvantages. The transformation occurs when Link wears this mysterious mask. To turn back into a human, all Link needs to do is remove it. The transformation looks rather painful.

   (DEKU HORNS)
Along with many other things, each of Link's transformations comes with it's own unique instrument. Deku Link plays the Deku Horns. The Deku Horns are the loudest of the instruments and required for entrance into Windfall temple. They are also effective in putting invisible giants to sleep.

   (DEKU STICK)
The Deku Stick is one of the first items that Link is introduced to. They have various uses, one of which being a sword to fend of enemies and other bothersome things. Though they are fairly weak when used for attack, Deku sticks prove to be very useful items when Link is caught in the dark. They catch fire easy, and are often required in dungeons containing unlit torches. Deku sticks can be obtained by killing a Deku BaBa (its stem must be straight up and down at the time Link kills it otherwise it will drop a different item).

   (DEKU NUT)
Though not as essential as the Deku Stick, Deku Nuts can come in handy when Link has a need to blind his enemies. They are introduced very early in the game, and are a key item against the first boss that Link must face. Deku Nuts can be obtained by killing a Deku Baba (Link's final blow must go to it's head while it's stem is bent, otherwise it will drop a different item)

   (DEKU SHIELD)
The Deku Shield is the weakest shield in the game. It is the first shield that Link obtains, and is a necessary item for his first visit to the great Deku tree, however it is not very strong in combat. When hit with fire, the deku shield will burn up, leaving Link somewhat defenseless. This is not too much of a problem however, since it is not a very expensive item and is easy to aquire.

   (DEKU LEAF)
Link recieves the Deku Leaf in the dungeon at Forest Haven, when saving Makar (Wind Waker). It is a very important item through out the rest of his journey, key to transportation. When using the Deku Leaf, Link has the ability to glide through the air, however as he does so, his magic meter is slowly depleted. Given to Link by the great Deku tree, this special leaf also equips Link with the ability to blow gusts of wind at nearby enemies. The direction of the wind is key when in flight.
